Abstract
Using annual survey data compiled from Korea Labor & Income Panel Study, we analyzed income-related inequalities in health care finance and self-assessed health. Over the 1999¡2007 period, Kakwani indices, measuring inequality in health care finance, ranged from -0.30 to -0.37 while displaying no clear temporal pattern. These values are comparable to -0.38, the corresponding value for the USA for the year 1999, implying high inequity/regressivity in health care finance. On the other hand, standardized concentration indices, measuring inequality in self-assessed health, ranged from -0.028 to -0.037 while displaying initially a downward trend in inequality up to 2004 and then subsequently an upward trend. These values are comparable to -0.018, the corresponding value for Japan for the year 1992, implying very low inequality in health.
